What matters more than relationships?

Science and lots of research tell us that we humans have evolved because we’re social beings. That we probably wouldn’t be here today if we only existed in isolation. Those lions and tigers would have gotten the best of us. But they didn’t, because we stuck together. And though we’ve traded caves for houses and spears for cell phones, we still need each other today in year 2025.

When talking about relationships, Michael S. Erwin, veteran, author, entrepreneur said,

“Love shared between people is a powerful stabilizing force. Our relationships ground us in our commitments to each other even as our circumstances become uncertain or change quickly.”

Here where I live, our days are getting shorter. We’re wrapping up our Ladies Trail Crew (LTC) work nights. Where people come as individuals and leave as LTC family members. A group committed to each other and our shared love of outdoor recreation. I find myself filled with gratitude for those who show up and do this selfless dirty work. Even when their circumstances are uncertain or changing quickly.

The LTC nights remind me that relationships…connection doesn’t happen by accident. It happens when people choose to show up. Whether in friendships, families, or in workplaces, relationships grow strongest not when things are easy, but when we commit to each other through the messiness of (trail work, friendship, public discourse) uncertainty and change.

Where will you choose to show up in the upcoming week?

“Never doubt that a small group of thoughtful, committed, citizens can change the world. Indeed, it is the only thing that ever has.”
― Margaret Mead

Try Community Circles this Fall

Community Circles are small groups where individuals come together for meaningful conversation and connection. Each circle meets for three sessions (2.5 hours each), includes a shared meal each time, and focuses on a single topic.

Warren Buffett’s advice investing in yourself comes to mind. He said “generally speaking, investing in yourself is the best thing you can do. Anything that improves your own talents; nobody can tax it or take it away from you.” A Community Circle is just that, its an investment of focused growth, clarity, and your ability to lead yourself and others well.

Why commit? Because when you step away from the busyness of work or life to reflect, learn, and connect with others, you come back to your world with new tools, sharper insight, and a stronger sense of who you are.

It’s not just talk, it’s active practice. And when we practice together, we don’t just change our own lives. We ripple change into our families, workplaces, and communities. Together, we change the world.

There are two new groups starting in less than two weeks.
Adults 60+(ish): Thursdays 9:00am-11:30am
Sept 25th, Oct 23rd, Nov 20th

Group 2: Mondays 5:15pm-7:45pm
Sept 22nd, Oct 20th, Nov 17th

If the cost is an issue – let me know, we can solve that problem. If being with strangers is an issue – read this study and learn how talking with strangers makes us happier than we think. If being vulnerable makes you cringe, take a page from Brene Brown’s research and learn about shame/fear of disconnection. If you’re seeking professional leadership, read here how leading your self first is the foundational first step. If you’re wondering what the heck you’re here for, you can listen/read any thing from Dr. Arthur Brooks about fulfillment and purpose.

We are Stronger Together!

Two groups starting this September:
Thursday Mornings Adults 60+
Monday Evenings
